Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Since July 2021.
Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?
We believe in leading by example and promoting environmental sustainability. Now operating as a carbon neutral organisation, this demonstrates our commitment to environmental sustainability. Our Climate Active certification ensures we are accountable for our carbon footprint and has allowed us to formalise our sustainability goals.
Although our carbon emissions are relatively low, we recognise the value in doing our part to offset our carbon footprint. We take pride in being part of a collective group of organisations dedicated to climate solutions for our future.
What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Implementing the process of becoming a carbon neutral organisation and gaining Climate Active certification demonstrates our commitment to environmentally sustainable outcomes. This means that our clients can have confidence in that they are working with an organisation dedicated to best practice. Additionally, our clients will be supporting carbon neutral operations with a net zero impact on climate change.
By understanding our carbon emission sources, we have been able to plan our future reduction strategy. We are committed to reducing our future carbon emissions to meet our specific targets.
What offset project do you support?
A forestry project in Western Australia.
Why did you choose this project?
We chose the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor project as it is a Western Australian based project seeking to deliver positive environmental, economic and community outcomes through native reforestation.
The founder and Managing Director of Applied Environment & Safety is originally from Western Australia. Growing up appreciating the natural beauty and diversity of her home state was the inspiration behind starting a career in environmental management. The opportunity to support this revegetation project of degraded land to promote biodiversity in Western Australia is very important to her and the company.
How can your customers support you?
Since our largest carbon emissions contributor is travel to and from our client offices and work sites, we are seeking opportunities to use technology to facilitate remote support from online meetings through to inspections or audits. The ongoing support from our clients in regards to flexible delivery of our services will assist with achieving our carbon reduction goals.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
By taking inventory of our carbon emissions and understanding our emissions sources, we are able to plan our future emissions reduction strategy. We are committed to reducing our future emissions to meet our specific targets based on our primary emission sources. This includes increasing local business opportunities and therefore reducing travel and flight related emissions, direct offsets of flights, solar energy production, and utilising other carbon neutral products and services where possible.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
We would encourage other businesses to consider going carbon neutral. No matter the size of your business or scale of your carbon footprint, we can all work together for a sustainable future.
The process may seem overwhelming at first, however don’t be discouraged. We worked with a Climate Active registered consultant who guided us through the process one step at a time to help us achieve our certification.
