Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Australian Mines Limited has been certified since August 2020.
Why are you carbon neutral?
Being certified carbon neutral is a natural next step for Australian Mines. As an emerging, globally significant partner and supplier to the Electric Vehicle battery and clean energy storage industries we are committed to enabling a low carbon future and operating a sustainable business. We are already a member of the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) an independent organisation that certifies socially and environmentally responsible mining. Our flagship Sconi project has also been granted Prescribed Project status by the Queensland Government in recognition of our commitment to give back to the communities where we operate through investment in shared local infrastructure and the creation of long term job opportunities.
What are the benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Our Climate Active carbon neutral certification demonstrates to all our stakeholders that we are aligned with best practice on tracking, reducing and offsetting our emissions.
Australian Mines has the potential to be a significant supplier to clean energy industries and it is important that we ‘walk the walk’. Achieving carbon neutral certification supports our development plans by enhancing our ability to attract and engage with potential offtake and financing partners.
What offset projects do you support?
We support a REDD+ biodiversity project in the Central Kalimantan region of Indonesian Borneo.
REDD+ stands for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation a United Nations’ designation for climate change mitigation, conservation and biodiversity initiatives.
Why did you choose this project?
Australian Mines, through the sustainable development of its flagship Sconi Project, is giving back to the local communities where the company operates. The Sconi Project is expected to be a globally significant supplier of technology metal materials to the high growth Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage industries. Supporting the biodiversity project allows the company to also make a positive difference beyond our Australian based operations.
How can the community support you?
We would like to encourage all our stakeholders to follow our lead and implement emissions reduction strategies of their own. We would also like stakeholders to create an expectation the broader industry will do more to create a low carbon future.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
A full summary of our emissions reductions strategy is included in our Public Disclosure Statement below.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
There is a growing expectation that companies will do more and be more transparent on carbon emissions and their broader impact on environment, social and governance issues. Achieving Climate Active carbon neutral certification is a clear demonstration that a company takes its ESG responsibilities seriously and is planning to generate value for all stakeholders over the long term.
