Type of certification

Service and Product.

How long have you been certified carbon neutral?

Since October 2020.

Why are you carbon neutral?

Our phones might look cute and clean but the data centres and the network that drives them uses electricity that causes carbon emissions. We decided to become carbon neutral because acknowledging our contribution to the climate change problem is important - we believe we must be responsible for our emissions.

What are the benefits of your carbon neutral certification?

Our team are proud to work for felix as we strive to be good to the planet. Being certified carbon neutral and therefore offsetting our customers' phone usage, should make our customers feel good too!

What offset projects do you support?

We have proudly embarked on the following partnerships with projects that are making a difference to both local and international emissions. Locally, we have invested in the Aak Puul Ngantam Savanna Burning project which reduces emissions through traditional Indigenous fire management on Australia's Cape York peninsula. Recognising that climate change is a global issue we’re also investing in a renewable energy project overseas; Prony and Kafeate Wind Power, in New Caledonia. The wind farms consist of 116 wind turbines that use world class technology to provide New Caledonia with renewable electricity

How can the community support you?

Just by being a felix customer, you’re helping us be good to the planet.

What else are you doing to reduce emissions?

felix is a business owned by TPG Telecom Limited.

TPG Telecom has implemented a range of initiatives to address  and improve energy efficiency of its mobile network,  and reduce its carbon footprint:

  • Installing passive fan-cooling systems to keep network equipment cool
  • The installation of hundreds of energy ‘smart meters’ to better understand and manage energy use
  • Working with network partners to install more efficient equipment and using innovative network site design to improve energy performance

TPG Telecom is currently developing its plans  related to the use of renewable electricity and further reducing its impact on the environment and will be making announcements in coming months.

At felix, we’ve also designed our SIM card packaging  to minimise waste, have a ‘paperless first’ policy and we’re exploring the use of eSIM technologies to avoid the manufacture and transportation of plastic SIM cards.

What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
