Organisation

How long have you been certified carbon neutral?

Since February 2021.

Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?

Landcom’s decision to go carbon neutral is central to our market leadership, and commitment to enabling carbon neutral outcomes by 2028 in accordance with our Sustainable Places Strategy.

What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?

The impacts of climate change will and are impacting us all.  We hope that by certifying as a carbon neutral organisation we can bring greater awareness to the need for a low carbon future.

What offset projects do you support?

A wind power project in India, and a reforestation project and a wildlife habitat corridor and vegetation restoration project in Australia.

Why did you choose these projects?

We chose this combination of initiatives to make the greatest positive impact for reforestation and revegetation in NSW.  Increasing habitat, protecting species and enhancing carbon sequestration are central to our commitment of achieving net positive biodiversity outcomes.  This also aligns with our Sustainable Development Goal commitments.

How can the community support you?

Landcom community members can support carbon neutral outcomes by considering the impact of their own homes on the environment.  Simple, smart decisions make a significant difference to how the homes sector impacts NSW’s overall carbon emissions.

A few tips!  Strive for the highest BASIX rating possible.  Insulate your home.  Phase out gas (which is a fossil fuel) and go all electric.  Shop around for green energy deals.

What else are you doing to reduce emissions?

Under our Sustainable Places Strategy we have a target to enable carbon neutral outcomes across our entire operations by 2028.  This was just our first step in meeting that goal.

All Landcom projects deliver against our Sustainable Places Strategy targets, which include emissions reduction, onsite energy production and climate resilience planning.

What advice would you give to a business considering certification?

Certifying as a carbon neutral organisation sends a clear and positive message to any organisation’s stakeholders that carbon reduction is a priority.
