Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Since August 2021.
Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?
We aim to create sustainable value for our investors and stakeholders. The integration of ESG factors in our business and investment decisions is a natural extension of our disciplined approach to risk management.
Carbon neutral certification is an important signal to the market on our focus to mitigate the environmental impacts of our business operations and support the transition to a net zero carbon future.
What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Our staff have been highly engaged throughout our certification process. Certification has provided much momentum for the advancement of our climate change framework and improved general awareness of the environmental impact of our operations and enthusiasm to reduce our carbon footprint.
What offset project do you support?
A land fire abatement project in Northern Territory, Australia.
Why did you choose this project?
We were particularly impressed and inspired by this project. Whilst cheaper (offshore) carbon offset programs were available to us, by supporting this project we are contributing to the extensive and culturally appropriate fire management programs. The Arnhem Land Fire Abatement has also enabled project partners to invest in Aboriginal land management organisations, ecological monitoring research, an independent remote outstation school and culture camps, and generating a positive impact on:
• local employment
• community development
• biodiversity protection, and
• ancient culture site protection.
How can your customers support you?
Market demand for green and sustainable commercial real estate product will continue to drive momentum in the industry and lead to greater opportunities for financiers and investment managers to support the growth of this industry.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
We have developed a climate change roadmap and climate change policy which includes initiatives to reduce emissions across our operating business in areas such as travel, staff commuting, recycling and organic waste and an ongoing education program for staff.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
The certification process has been an interesting and rewarding process for us, and our staff have been very engaged in the journey. We encourage other organisations to consider undertaking certification, which in our view is a small but important step in reducing our carbon footprint and increasing awareness of environmental impacts.
