How long have you been certified carbon neutral?

Since 2006.

Why are you carbon neutral?

Australian Paper aims to minimise our impact on the environment, and maximise our social and economic contribution to the communities in which we operate. Our Maryvale Mill is the largest producer of renewable base load energy in Victoria.

Climate Active certification allows Australian Paper to better understand our emissions profile, providing guidance on measuring, reducing, offsetting, reporting and managing the carbon emissions from our operations.

We are also able to produce carbon neutral products by measuring our operational processes, accounting for, and offsetting, our emissions.

What are the benefits of your carbon neutral certification?

For Australian Paper certification allows us to engage our customers and consumers by manufacturing carbon neutral products. It also provides a focus for emissions reduction opportunities from our production processes.

How can the community support you?

Consumers can support carbon offset projects, our economy and local jobs, by choosing to buy Australian made copy papers marked as Climate Active Carbon Neutral certified.

What else are you doing to reduce emissions?

Australian Paper continues to target lower emissions by focusing on energy reduction projects. We are also investigating an Energy from Waste project at Australian Paper Maryvale which would reduce annual carbon emissions in Victoria by an estimated 543,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. This $600 million investment would reduce waste to landfill in Victoria by approximately 650,000 tonnes per annum and save significant quantities of gas and electricity ongoing.

What advice would you give to a business considering certification?

Measuring and monitoring of emissions is the first step to understanding the profile of your business and potential areas for improvement. Climate Active certification is a valuable tool that brings benefits to business, the community and the growing renewable energy sector.
