Zilch Forwarding is an organisation that facilitates the transportation of goods on behalf of customers through freight mediums (trucks, ships, planes) that are owned and operated by third parties.
“We identify that the global logistics sector needs to act and fast. Going carbon neutral makes a lot of sense for Zilch and Climate Active is the benchmark certification to do so.”
Type of certification
Service and Organisation.
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Since August 2021.
Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?
Freight transportation is almost exclusively powered by fossil fuels, making up roughly 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Demand for freight is expected to triple by 2050 compared to 2015 according to the International Transport Forum, fuelled by global supply chains, burgeoning economies in the developing world, and a rise in e-commerce activities. Over the same period, the world will see a doubling in freight transport GHG emissions if we proceed with business as usual. We identify that the global logistics sector needs to act and fast. Going carbon neutral makes a lot of sense for Zilch and Climate Active is the benchmark certification to do so.
What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
We believe that organisations are looking for greater transparency into Scope 3 logistics emissions for corporate reporting and ultimately looking for cleaner ways to transport goods around the world. Going carbon neutral allows them to act immediately to impact supply chain emissions, whilst developing and implementing carbon reduction strategies over time.
What offset projects do you support?
A wind bundle project in Maharashtra and a forestry project in Indonesia.
Why did you choose these projects?
We found these projects to represent a great blend of climate impact and co-benefits. They also represent the global nature of our clients' businesses and supply chains.
How can your customers support you?
Looking into their own supply chains and choosing cleaner ways to transport where they can.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
We will be working with our clients on optimising supply chain pathways to reduce emissions. This includes modal shift, vessel benchmarking and alternative fuels.
