Climate Active is an Australian Government program that supports and guides businesses to take voluntary action on climate change and communicate this action publicly.
Climate Active provides voluntary Australian standards to help measure, reduce and offset greenhouse gas emissions. Entities that meet the standards can be certified as having achieved a carbon neutral status. Certified entities can then use the Climate Active trade mark to publicly promote their action.
The Climate Active trade mark makes it easier for consumers to identify and choose brands that are taking credible action on climate.
Climate Active claims are subject to independent third-party verification to support the integrity of the carbon neutral claim.
The Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard is underpinned by carbon accounting and offsets integrity principles. It is built on international best-practice standards and the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) protocols including:
- Australian Standard (AS) ISO 14064 series
- International Standard ISO 14040 series
- ISO 14065:2013 – Greenhouse gases
- GHG Protocol standards.
Carbon neutral certification against the Climate Active Carbon Neutral Standard (formerly the National Carbon Offset Standard) has been available to Australian businesses since 2010.
