Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Since October 2020.
Why are you carbon neutral?
We are carbon neutral because we care for our customers and believe in a better future for ourselves and our planet. We are committed to encouraging people to come together as a community and strive for a better future for everyone. Our company mission and what we stand for is awesome street food with zero carbon and we believe that we can generate a following who will help us accelerate the world’s transition to a sustainable future.
What are the benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Our certification ensures that we can lead the way in the fast food business globally by demonstrating what it takes to create a sustainable future. By clearly communicating the strategies we have applied, we can encourage other businesses to do the same, and educate the community about the positive impact carbon neutrality can have on the environment.
What offset projects do you support?
A clean energy generation project in Gujarat, India.
Why did you choose this project?
To support renewable energy generation in a developing economy, thus reducing air pollution and increasing their access to energy.
How can the community/consumers support you?
Put simply, the best support we can hope for is for people to choose to eat with us! By choosing atiyah over another food vendor, our customers are making a conscious decision to replace more emission intensive meal and drink options, therefore reducing their personal footprint. The only way we can continue to grow and expand our offering across not only Australia, but the rest of the world, is for consumers to actively choose atiyah - and choose to save the planet.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
Our kitchen draws all of its power requirements from a standalone solar and energy storage solution. We achieve full water independence from the rainwater catchment roof where the collected rainwater is filtered using advanced UV light and micron-filters and pumped through the eWater electrolysis system. This ‘waste' water is then repurposed to use in off-site community gardens. Our limited food waste is composted for use in local community gardens. We have reduced waste implementing a closed loop supply chain. We only serve drinks through an innovated keg tap system, which uses air to dispense instead of Co2 and all of our packaging is biodegradable.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
It’s really a no brainer. In order to gain the respect and loyalty from the next consumer generation, you have to be part of the sustainable movement to help save the planet. Seventy-three per cent of consumers aged 15-35 years are becoming increasingly willing to pay more for products and services from companies who are committed to sustainability.
