Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Frasers Property Australia have been certified since 2015.
Why are you carbon neutral?
In line with our sustainability strategy A Different Way, we want to be smarter and more efficient in the way we use the planet’s finite resources, and ultimately, regenerate what we use. Our goal is to ‘make clean energy accessible for all’ by 2030, and this drives our approach to reducing carbon emissions.
What are the benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Frasers Property Australia has experienced a range of benefits from our carbon neutral certification including enhanced corporate social responsibility, internal carbon management expertise leading to energy and cost savings, increased customer recognition, and improved employee engagement.
What offset projects do you support?
The CECIC Urumqi Tuoli Phase 1 Wind Farm in China, Siam Biomass Project in Thailand, the Maharashtra Wind Power Project in India, the NSW Blaxland Renewable Energy ACCUs in Australia, and the Drysdale Landfill Gas Project ACCUs in Australia.
Why did you choose these projects?
These offset projects align with our sustainability strategy A Different Way, particularly those that provide clean energy accessible for all. The countries that these projects benefit are countries which Frasers Property Limited, Frasers Property’s parent company, operate in.
How can the community support you?
Our commercial and industrial customers can support us by also achieving the Climate Active standard for buildings. Frasers Property Australia can guide our customers through the whole process from initially calculating carbon emissions, to promoting and maintaining certification.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
Our emission reduction initiatives include educating and engaging our employees to encourage them to reduce their environmental impacts at work and at home. We are educating our site staff in sustainable construction management in line with Green Star Design & As Built and Green Star Innovation credits. Improving NABERS Energy Tenancy and Base Building Rates and purchasing 100 per cent green power for our two largest offices and offset one office, as well as 20 per cent on industrial sites is also being undertaken. Other initiatives are combining our two Melbourne offices into one to reduce electricity overall, reducing the number of cars in our fleet, and purchasing carbon neutral office paper
What has been the impact of your action?
Frasers Property’s emissions decreased by 6.5 per cent in 2017/2018 compared to 2015/2016.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
It’s easier and cheaper than you think. Don’t be afraid to talk to your own customers and partners and see if they want to get involved. That’s where we’ve had the biggest wins, when we’ve worked collaboratively.
