Type of certification

How long have you been certified carbon neutral?

Since December 2020.

Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?

Schramm Group's decision to gain certification was to demonstrate leadership in the traffic control industry and make a genuine commitment to sustainability and protection of the environment.

Schramm Group takes responsibility for our carbon emissions from our day to day operations.

Our goal is to continually reduce our emissions through corporate strategies and goals as outlined below. Those emissions that are unavoidable, we offset through supporting emissions reductions projects in Australia as well as overseas.

What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?

Internally, all personnel will ‘come on the journey’ with us and this will give all members of the Schramm Group team a level of satisfaction that we are working towards reducing our carbon emissions for a healthier planet.

Externally, we will be an industry leader and others may follow our example to a more sustainable future.  Plus new opportunities may be created that are mutually beneficial to our organisation, personnel and our clients.

What offset projects do you support?

We chose to support two renewable energy projects in India and a biodiversity conservation project in Victoria, Australia.

Why did you choose these projects?

Schramm Group wanted to purchase a blend of offsets supporting Australian and international projects, with a preference to projects that not only have carbon emissions reductions but also wider social, economic and environmental benefits.

The project in Victoria is a small scale biodiversity conservation covenant project. The purpose of the covenant is to permanently conserve and protect the natural, cultural and scientific value of the project area.

What else are you doing to reduce emissions?

Schramm Group has a number of strategies and goals in place to become a more sustainable organisation.

These include:

  • paperless field operations with all documentation submitted and distributed electronically
  • fleet vehicles with high fuel efficiency and energy source
  • transition to 100% green/renewable energy options for our electricity usage
  • enhanced green office policy to reduce waste, recycle toner cartridges and use energy efficient lighting
  • environmentally sustainable recycling of redundant equipment and assets including old electronic devices, vehicle tyres etc
  • investigate hybrid or electric ‘fit for purpose’ vehicles to further reduce our emissions.

What advice would you give to a business considering certification?

The certification process takes significant effort but the outcome is definitely worth it.  The reaction from team members for undertaking this process is significantly positive to a healthy work place and healthy environment.
