“We need to act now and act fast if we want to leave a liveable world for our children. Climate Active certification is one step along this pathway.”
Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Since December 2021.
Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?
As energy and environmental consultants, demonstrating our own commitment to becoming carbon neutral is extremely important.
We need to act now and act fast if we want to leave a liveable world for our children. Climate Active certification is one step along this pathway.
What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
By becoming certified through Climate Active, we are recognising, accounting for, and offsetting our environmental footprint and demonstrating our commitment and leadership towards climate action. Additionally, we hope our certification journey encourages other businesses to follow suit and demonstrate their commitment and ambition to rapid emission reduction.
What offset project do you support?
Purchased offsets from EcoAustralia through a registered consultant.
Why did you choose this project?
The carbon offsets focus primarily on investing in Australian biodiversity and habitat protection and achieving carbon reductions internationally through renewable energy and emission reduction projects through the Gold Standard.
Currently, EcoAustralia is supporting two biodiversity projects in Australia: The Mount Sandy project, which is supporting conservation agencies alongside the Ngarrindjeri people in the Coorong region to maintain permanent protection of the region’s biodiversity – the Coorong is a Ramsar Wetland of International Importance, and a local gem; and The Myamyn Lowland Forest Project, in Victoria’s south west, which protects an area of cleared Annya State Forest and replants the cleared vegetation with native plants to protect and enhance the local biodiversity.
How can consumers support you?
As Climate Active registered consultants and having completed the process to offset our own emissions, we understand in-depth the Climate Active process. With this knowledge, we can support businesses and organisations to demonstrate their commitment to climate action and carbon neutrality through their own Climate Active journey.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
The recent procurement of our electric Nissan Leaf means that we are drastically reducing transport emissions, especially when charged with 100% GreenPower certified electricity, or on-site renewable energy generation. Additionally, we are expecting to reduce our office electricity emissions through the solar PV system being installed on the building by the Town of Gawler Council.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
Our advice to any business considering certification is to engage a registered consultant at the beginning of your Climate Active journey. That way, the proper mechanisms and emission accounting methodology can be established early on and will simplify the whole process.
