Since February 2021.
Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?
To demonstrate our commitment to the planet and ensure we are doing all we can as an organisation to live up to our values and purpose.
What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
We believe that carbon neutral certification will support strong staff engagement, drive satisfaction and engagement from our members. It will open up opportunities to partner with like-minded organisations in order to drive value for our customers while doing the right thing for the planet. It will also act as a commitment to drive us to continually measure and minimise our impact on the environment.
What offset projects do you support?
A wind power project in India.
How can the community support you?
We would love the community to embrace our purpose and ensure they use resources as efficiently as possible. This can be through reuse, repurpose or passing on goods and resources to expand their useful lifespan and reduce waste.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
We are significantly reducing the amount of paper used in our business by embracing digital communications with members. Any paper that is used is recycled from sustainable sources. We will be launching an Eco-Debit card early in 2021 which is made from 90% plant based materials as opposed to the traditional plastic for bankcards. We are also working on a range of products designed to support members reduce their carbon footprint.
What has been the impact of your action?
We now have a benchmark of our emissions which we can measure against going forward.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
We strongly recommend that other businesses go through the process. It will make you consider the impacts of all elements of your business and highlight areas of waste and inefficiency that can be improved upon in order to reduce their impact on the planet. It is also a strong motivating factor for staff to unite behind.
