Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Since September 2021.
Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?
We are continuously challenging ourselves to not only reduce our environmental and social impact but seek ways to give back and improve the lives of others throughout everything we do. We feel a profound sense of responsibility to advance our shared mission of a more sustainable future and realise the importance of leading our industry with voluntary carbon neutral operations under the Climate Active organisation standard.
What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Sustainability is a moral imperative that guides our work, from product design, right through to delivery. A certification under Climate Active substantiates our commitment to achieving net zero operational emissions and furthers our 'Believe in Better' philosophy. Other benefits include:
• diverting end of life materials from landfill for reuse and recycling;
• safety, health and wellbeing, positive societal impacts and support of UN sustainable development goals;
• socially just and equitable supply chain; and
• product transparency and material health.
What offset projects do you support?
A forestry project in Western Australia and an electricity generation project in China.
Why did you choose these projects?
Whilst certified carbon capture/sequestration has an equal benefit no matter where it is undertaken in the world, we were keen to select projects most relevant to our business operations. We chose a reforestation project in Western Australia as a reflection of our Australian made operations, with all of our soft floorcoverings made in Australia and New Zealand. The impressive and high yielding hydropower plant project was chosen due to its geographical proximity to many of our timber and resilient flooring suppliers that provide outstanding timber, laminate, vinyl plank and hybrid flooring products through our various businesses.
How can your customers support you?
Through supporting locally made products like ours, that rely on raw materials from large local suppliers. By doing this, consumers are not only helping to achieve the ultimate carbon neutral goal, but are also contributing to positive societal impacts. Furthermore, this allows our consumers to consistently support local employees, their families and the involvement they bring to our communities.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
We are aiming to reduce our impact in line with the Paris Agreement and beyond to keep global warming below 1.5°C. Through our emissions reduction strategy we are looking to adopt this framework across all new product development.
What has been the impact of your action?
This is our first reporting period, but it has already been a wonderful opportunity to assess our emissions and the largest wins. Within our emission reduction strategy, we are aiming to deliver emission absolute reduction of 30% & 80% of pre consumer waste to landfill by 2030.
