Type of certification
Organisation. Adamantem Capital and Melior Investment Management (affiliate) is certified for its business operations.
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Why are you carbon neutral?
As part of our approach to delivering positive environmental outcomes in our portfolio, we are also committed to reducing our own operational impact on the environment.
What are the benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Through our certification, we would like to encourage our staff, stakeholders and the listed companies we actively engage with and invest in, to also reduce their carbon footprint. We believe that purpose driven companies that create positive social and environmental impact attract and retain talent and reduce their operational risks and costs.
What offset projects do you support?
Australian native revegetation and savanna burning.
Why did you choose these projects?
In line with our broader commitment to responsible investing we have sought to incorporate the generation of co-benefits beyond reducing carbon in our offset purchasing strategy. The credits we have purchased directly support Australian-based projects which align with the creation of additional benefits for Indigenous populations, forest regeneration, biodiversity creation and ecosystem support.
How can the community support you?
As a pioneer in public equities impact investing, we are looking to take impact investment mainstream by encouraging wholesale investors to reallocate their capital towards funds such as ours that are focused on positive lens investing that seeks to deliver positive social and environmental outcomes and competitive returns.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
We have developed a carbon calculator that estimates the ASX300 carbon emissions of companies, tracks their progress and estimates carbon risk. We have established carbon reduction targets for our portfolio as a KPI and tracked our portfolio vs the ASX300. We have surveyed our team’s carbon footprint and looked to improve our footprint e.g by taking public transport and cycling as well as reducing business class travel.
What has been the impact of your action?
Our portfolio has a carbon intensity 47% below the ASX300 (as at Dec, 2019). Our portfolio has 21% of companies with a net zero target and 21% that are TCFD signatories vs ASX300 figures of 6% and 11%, respectively. Our active company engagement on reporting on their carbon emissions and embedding meaningful carbon reduction targets has been credited as being influential by a number of listed companies.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
That it is a very useful process to drive focus on your company's carbon emissions and where there are opportunities to reduce emissions. It is also an important step in encouraging the broader adoption of environmental initiatives within corporate Australia.
