How long have you been certified carbon neutral?

Since February 2022.

Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?

As a responsible business, Young Folks is committed to protecting and preserving the natural environment and supporting our communities.

We’re on the tipping point of catastrophic climate change. The action we take today will influence our tomorrow. And we see it as our responsibility to play our part in climate action.

In addition to our emissions reduction activities, our Climate Active certification formalises our commitment to a net zero, carbon neutral future by 2030.

What are the benefits of your carbon neutral certification?

Our carbon neutral certification under Climate Active demonstrates our commitment to take climate action and is a positive step towards a net zero, carbon neutral future by 2030.

What offset projects do you support?

A forestry project in Papua New Guinea and a energy generation project in South Vietnam.

Why did you choose these projects?

With carbon dioxide increasing each year as a result of burning fossil fuels and deforestation, we’ve selected these two projects which directly address two of the biggest threats to our climate – the Rice Husk Based Thermal Energy Generation Project at Thot Not and the NIHT Topaiyo REDD + Project in Papua New Guinea.

When organic matter, such as food waste, ends up in landfill, it turns into methane – a powerful greenhouse gas and major contributor to global emissions. By transforming food waste into renewable energy, The Rice Husk Based Thermal Energy Generation Project addresses a key cause of emissions whilst creating renewable energy – which, in turn, contributes to reducing reliance on energy derived from fossil fuels.

Tropical rainforests are considered the ‘lungs of the planet’ as they draw in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. The NIHT Topaiyo REDD + in Papua New Guinea is focussed on ending industrial logging and preserving critical rainforests and creating partnerships with traditional landowners. It’s already saved 330,000 hectares of rainforest.

How can the community support you?

The community can support us by joining the conversation on our social media platforms and furthering their education on using business as a force for good by reading our blog.

We’d love to invite our clients and community to advocate for us as a carbon neutral Climate Active marketing agency. And encourage the community to look out for the Climate Active logo when they seek products or services.

What else are you doing to reduce emissions?

We know that wherever (and whenever) our team works, we leave an environmental footprint. We have put in place an environmental stewardship policy to ensure we limit negative environmental impacts wherever and however we are working.

This means our office is paperless and has robust recycling and composting solutions in place, our website hosting and files servers are carbon neutral and we support and educate our team on ways to decrease their own environmental footprint. We outline the steps we’ve taken and the initiatives in progress on the Social and Environmental Responsibility page of our website and share our guidelines for reducing emissions in our Environmental Stewardship Policy.

What has been the impact of your action?

Through the GHG assessment, we’ve identified opportunities to reduce emissions and increase education within our team.

What advice would you give to a business considering certification?

Climate Active certification is a commitment to action today that secures a brighter future for everyone.

The certification process may seem daunting at first but you’ll learn so much on the journey. And while you might not feel ready, the planet can’t wait any longer.

So jump in, ask for help and support, and get this good thing done.
