HIP V. HYPE
At HIP V. HYPE we collaborate to resolve more environmentally sustainable, more socially responsible and more commercially intuitive solutions for a better built environment.
We are a community of built environment advocates inspired by a vision to pioneer more climate resilient cities and regions and to deliver sustainable housing models in Australia that are centred around the needs of people.
Established in 2015, our sustainability consultancy provides services in the area of sustainable urban renewal, climate change strategies and plans, sustainable policy and planning, sustainable living programs and sustainable building design and systems. Our philosophy is to partner with those who are willing to think strategically to achieve better and collaborate and support others to deliver impact and build Better Cities & Regions, Better Buildings, and Better Businesses.
“Our certification demonstrates our commitment to embedding sustainability principles into the work we do, including minimising our operational footprint and minimising the footprint of our projects. ”
Type of certification
How long have you been certified carbon neutral?
Since December 2020.
Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?
We recognise the climate emergency and are genuinely committed to challenging ourselves to explore innovative solutions that enable exceptional sustainability outcomes.
Going carbon neutral is our commitment to meeting climate targets and keeping global temperatures within set boundaries.
The certification provides a rigorous framework to carbon neutral certification. We value this rigour as it will provide our businesses with the stamina to continue to reduce our emissions over time and only purchase high quality credits linked to improved biodiversity outcomes not just carbon reduction.
What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?
Our aim is to influence and to build the safe, sustainable, inspiring future we deserve. We are committed to leaving our cities and regions in a better condition than we found them.
Our carbon neutral certification under Climate Active demonstrates our commitment to embedding sustainability principles into the work we do, including minimising our operational footprint and minimising the footprint of our projects.
What offset projects do you support?
We invested in climate protection projects located in Australia and Taiwan.
Why did you choose these projects?
We aim to support high quality projects that mitigate the effects of climate change through carbon emissions reduction but that also support reforestation and sustainable development and provide ongoing support to transition local economies to zero carbon futures.
How can the community support you?
We actively seek to work with people and organisations who value sustainability and recognise the need for positive change.
We have expanded our industry and community engagement to advocate for the better future we all deserve. We seek to communicate the value of broader sustainability outcomes through public events, policy submissions and via our podcast, Hypecast.
What else are you doing to reduce emissions?
We are committed to climate action throughout our organisational values, our collaborations, our advisory work and our public advocacy.
We are continuing to actively reduce our organisational emissions across our waste, energy and transport activities such as: minimising our general waste, with the aim of being 99% waste free by the end of FY21; encouraging transport to meetings and to our events via cycling, public transport or car shares; ensuring all car rentals are hybrid at a minimum (where available), and full electric where possible; purchasing products that are highly recyclable and/or made with recycled content; minimising flights by enabling effective video conferencing and purchase offsets for all unavoidable flights; and hosting events that enable others to make positive change within our Collective workshare spaces and beyond.
Our transition to a net zero emissions future will be accelerated by reducing our Barkly Street Collective workshare’s reliance on grid energy by installing solar by mid 2021.
What advice would you give to a business considering certification?
Investing in a rigorous third-party certification process, as required by Climate Active certification, is a valuable exercise to maintain the utmost credibility in carbon neutrality and importantly provide your business with the discipline and stamina to continue to reduce your footprint over the long term.
