Type of certification

Organisation

How long have you been certified carbon neutral?

Since January 2021.

Why did you choose to go carbon neutral?

Becoming carbon neutral aligns with ME’s Social Impact Strategy and helps tackle one of the greatest challenges facing our planet today.

What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?

Carbon neutral certification enables ME to reduce our environmental footprint and support engagement with employees, customers and shareholders alike.

What offset projects do you support?

A West Arnhem Land fire abatement project in Australia and a wind power project in India.

Why did you choose these projects?

Both projects ME has selected support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The West Arnhem Land project provides employment and training opportunities for Aboriginal people in Arnhem Land and promotes the preservation and transfer of knowledge.

The wind power project creates employment and training opportunities in rural areas and allows farmers to grow crops, graze livestock and pump clean water to drink and irrigate crops.

How can customers support you?

Being an online bank, most of our customers are already pretty carbon conscious, but it’s simple things like accessing bank statements online rather than requesting hard copies via mail that really help.

What else are you doing to reduce emissions?

We are continuing to improve efficiencies in our office space and encourage employees to find environmentally friendly options when travelling to and from the office, client meetings or their place of work.
