“Certification was the next logical step to commit to meaningful change not only for our organisation, but also through the services and products we provide to our members.”

Type of certification

Organisation and Service.

How long have you been certified carbon neutral?

Hub Australia has been certified since 2020.

Why are you carbon neutral?

Living something bigger has always been part of our internal values –  we operate a number of initiatives to support our wider communities and the environment. Carbon neutral certification was the next logical step to commit to meaningful change not only for our organisation, but also through the services and products we provide to our members.

What are the anticipated benefits of your carbon neutral certification?

Achieving certification and learning more about reducing our carbon footprint is not just a positive for our environmental impact.

It’s motivated us to take action to reduce our emissions, and our team has all been onboard for the process as we calculated our individual impacts and how to minimise them as well. This is an important milestone for our employees and members, and we hope it’s seen as a differentiator when people are looking for their next employer or workspace.

What offset projects do you support?

We are supporting a wind power project in India. The project generates electricity to a number of regional grids in India, which would have otherwise been generated through non-renewable sources.

How can the community support you?

An important part of us providing carbon neutral certified workspaces to our members is that it can be an asset to members looking to become certified themselves.

We encourage our wider business community to look into how they can localise their supply chains, minimise environmental impact, adopt high ethics standards, and support other purpose-driven communities and businesses.

What else are you doing to reduce emissions?

Reducing our environmental footprint has always been a focus in our business. We have adopted a number of initiatives to minimise our emissions and impact, with waste and coffee grounds recycling programs, all locations operating on Green Power, and careful selection of appliances and processes to monitor and reduce energy and water usage in each of our sites.

What advice would you give to a business considering certification?

Start making small changes and collecting data as soon as possible. Every little change helps, and it will never be a negative if it helps you have a better impact on the world.

Setting up the data collection and reporting systems and processes can be a large project, but will pay off in time saved moving forward.

It’s also a great idea to get people from across the business involved in certification – this allows for collaboration and communication as well as organised timelines and frameworks.

Finally and probably most impactfully, we recommend using a registered consultant to assist and guide in launching and maintaining this project. We worked with Pangolin Associates and could not recommend them more!
